The split in the Indian IT job market in 2026
The Indian IT job market is really two different markets with different rules:
Service companies (TCS, Infosys, Wipro, HCL, Tech Mahindra, Accenture India) — volume hiring, structured processes, salary bands that don't vary much. These companies hire in large batches through their own portals and Naukri. Competition is high, but the bar is more predictable.
Product companies (Razorpay, CRED, PhonePe, Meesho, Swiggy, Flipkart, Zepto, and Indian offices of global companies like Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Atlassian) — selective hiring, higher salary, higher technical bar, faster career growth. These companies hire through LinkedIn, their own careers pages, and referrals. Competition is different: you're competing against a smaller but more technically strong pool.
The job-finding strategy is meaningfully different for each.
Best platforms by company type
For service company roles
Naukri.com — non-negotiable. This is where Indian IT service companies post and where their HR teams actively source. Keep your profile updated with your latest skills and make sure "Actively Looking" is toggled on.
Company portals directly — TCS iBegin, Infosys careers portal, Wipro careers. These often have roles not posted on Naukri, and direct applications sometimes move faster than aggregator applications.
Shine.com and TimesJobs — secondary aggregators that some tier-2 IT companies use more than Naukri. Worth setting up profile and alerts.
For product company roles
LinkedIn — the primary channel. Product companies' recruiters actively use LinkedIn to source and review candidates. Optimize your profile, keep it current, and set up job alerts.
Applyr's tech job board — aggregates live openings from top global tech companies, including companies with significant India operations. The key difference: every listing can be scored against your resume before you apply. This is particularly useful for India candidates applying to competitive global product company roles — knowing your ATS match score before joining a 300-application pool is a genuine advantage.
Instahyre — Indian product company focused job board. Good signal-to-noise ratio for VC-backed startups and Series A–C companies in India.
Wellfound (AngelList Talent) — global but used by many India-headquartered startups and Indian offices of global startups. Shows salary and equity upfront.
Salary benchmarks for IT roles in India (2026)
Approximate ranges — vary significantly by company tier, city, and negotiation:
| Role / Experience | Service Company (LPA) | Product Company (LPA) |
|---|---|---|
| Fresher / 0–1 yr | 3.5 – 7 | 10 – 25 |
| Junior / 1–3 yrs | 6 – 12 | 18 – 40 |
| Mid-level / 3–6 yrs | 10 – 20 | 30 – 70 |
| Senior / 6–10 yrs | 18 – 35 | 50 – 120+ |
Note: Product company numbers include equity/ESOPs at larger companies. FAANG India (Google, Microsoft, Amazon) often exceeds the product company ranges above for senior roles.
The ATS filter that blocks most Indian IT candidates
The biggest job-finding mistake among Indian IT candidates isn't which platform they use — it's using the wrong resume format. Two problems appear repeatedly:
Problem 1: Canva or highly designed templates. Multi-column, heavy graphic, skill-bar templates are extremely common in India. They look impressive. They also break every ATS parser. The parser merges columns, scrambles your work history, and often misses your skills entirely. Recruiters see a garbled profile, not your actual resume.
Problem 2: The "Declaration" section. Most Indian resume templates include a "Declaration: I hereby declare that the above information is true to the best of my knowledge." This section takes up valuable space and adds zero searchable keywords. Remove it entirely.
Before applying to any role — service company or product company — check your ATS score. Paste your resume text and the job description into Applyr's free ATS checker. Target 70%+ before applying. Most Indian IT candidates applying to product company roles are scoring 40–55% with their current resume — and they have no idea until they check.
